CO2 High Pressure Fire Extinguishing Systems
Carbon dioxide is a non-corrosive, odorless, colorless gas. During discharge, it serves as a white mist. It does not pollute or damage the materials it touches. Firefighting principle is two types; CO2 suffocation or oxygen dilution. It acts as CO2 suffocation or oxygen dilution. It reduces the concentration of oxygen in the region and the cooling occurs caused by the rapid expansion of the gas. Carbon dioxide should not normally be used for protecting occupied areas by people because inhalation can make asphyxia even at low concentrations. In addition, due to the formation of CO2 mist, visibility is greatly reduced during discharge. This fire extinguisher can be used in areas that are not normally used by people when appropriate safety devices are installed.
This system is used for extinguishing of flammable, liquid chemical or fuels. According to its chemical properties; there are protein-based, synthetic-based, film forming, alcohol-resistant foam types. Foamy extinguishing systems are designed as automatic or manual. Foam is generally used on foamy sprinkler system, foamy fire cabinets, tank, sprinkler system, foamy monitor systems and foam generator systems.
Foam is a chemical compound. When comes across with pressured water, the mixture is combined with air while passing from foam maker with pressure and this constitutes foam. Foam; covers fire surface completely as a blanket, cuts its contact with air and also it has a cooling function. Therefore, it is a good fire extinguisher.
